Shirdelle was first introduced to DFSA through her work at SAFE Austin as their Community Engagement Coordinator. Her passion for advocacy largely stems from her own childhood experiences. She now utilizes those life skills to advocate for herself and others. She attended DFSA’s Community Connect, a monthly gathering where close partners gather together to exchange resources and better serve our community. It was there that inspired her to get more involved.

Juanita discovered DFSA on a Campus Life announcement board at Huston-Tillotson University where she studies psychology. She immediately scheduled three appointments as she works on the initial stages of a business idea.

Despite being laid off from a finance role in December, Sarita is taking this opportunity to use her decade-long experience to pursue a similar role, one tied to her passion for training in mortgage management.

Christina recently completed our Path to Employment program where mentor Michael helped her find a role outside of the food and beverage industry. Over the six-week program, Christina worked closely with Michael and gained the confidence to secure a role she envisioned for herself.

Over the summer, Brenda joined our Path to Employment program where she was matched with a mentor and ended up securing a role as a cashier using previous customer service skills.

Roya has especially valued our Path to Employment (P2E) mentorship program which she has utilized on multiple occasions alongside mentors Bethany, Josie, and Sylvia. With the help of her mentors, she has fine tuned written materials and gained the confidence to pursue her dream career in full force.

Laney came in for a professional styling ahead of an exciting promotion next week. We learned that her first professional styling appointment with us five years ago was for an administrative role at the Texas Historical Commission where she has now been promoted to Program Supervisor.
