Saliyah pursues a new career and fuels her path with higher education

Throughout 2019 and 2020, Saliyah was a student for The College of Health Care Professions (CHCP) where she graduated as a certified medical assistant. She went on to become a career services advisor at CHCP where she transitioned to helping students. This is where she met and worked closely with DFSA Program Manager Lindy Warner to match potential clients in need of our services.

As a mom of two young boys, she has always wanted to provide the best life for them and uprooted from Louisiana to Texas to do just that. Having moved to Austin in 2018, she started her path to higher education in hopes of providing herself with multiple opportunities for success.

Most recently, she visited DFSA for a headshot to refresh her LinkedIn and prepare for a new career goal: going back to school for a Bachelor in Communications this fall. Saliyah already has an associate degree in Communications, but she shared that her future goal is to work in public relations so she wants to continue her education and grow within that industry over the next few years.

Saliyah’s sons have been with her every step of the way and she mentions how rewarding it is to see their excitement for education grow, inspiring her to not lose focus on her goals.

“Success looks different to everyone. Be okay with being a woman and remember it’s okay to be vulnerable. Connect and use the things that are internally natural to you.”
