Welcome Q&A: Lindy Warner Program Manager

A couple of weeks ago, we welcomed the newest member of our team, Program Manager Lindy Warner! We are so excited to have her here, and we couldn’t wait to learn more about her! Read on for a fun Q&A with Lindy:

Q: Briefly describe your professional background: 

A: For the last 11 years I have worked in Higher Ed at Texas State University in a variety of roles focused on career development and student support. I was an Academic Advisor for the College of Liberal Arts, a Career Advisor at Career Services, and for the last five years, the Graduate Programs Specialist for the Department of Sociology.

I earned both my B.S. in Applied Sociology ('10) and a M.A. in Sociology ('16) from Texas State, where I focused my research on gender and inequalities in the workplace.


Q: What drew you to DFSA, and why is the mission important to you?

A: I have known the Director of Volunteer Engagement, Candy Cantrell, for many years. When she told me about the position opening and explained the role of Program Manager, it truly seemed like the perfect next chapter in my career journey where I could utilize my education and professional experience.

It really feels like such a dream to be able to work with an organization that shares my passion for women's empowerment and career development.


Q: How have the first couple of weeks been?

A: My first week was really busy and overwhelming, but in the best way. I'm excited to learn more about DFSA and all of the programs and was so happy that this week I had the opportunity to meet some clients, volunteers, and also the board members.


Q: What most excites you about your new role?

A: I can't wait to "do the work" and go beyond what I've learned in the classroom to help empower women so that they can thrive and find fulfilling careers.


Q: As the Program Manager, you’re a master at multitasking. What is your best advice for managing multiple projects at once?

A: Stay organized! I love keeping a detailed calendar and creating a to-do list so that I can prioritize tasks and make sure I can keep tabs on everything that needs to get done.


Q: What do you do for fun outside of work?

A: I have two young sons who keep me super busy! We love to go to parks and spend time with family and friends. I also love to read, and last year reached my goal of reading over 50 books (some audiobooks) in 2021. I am always open to good book suggestions, so please send them my way!


Q: When do you feel most confident?

A: I feel most confident when I am fearless of my vulnerabilities. This is typically when I am doing something I love or when I'm around people that I care about and who make me feel comfortable.


Q: What is something that inspires you (song, quote, mantra, person, etc.)?
