Shatavia receives promotion for her work with students of skilled trades

Shatavia, M. Ed. visited Dress for Success Austin for a professional headshot to update her LinkedIn after sending students to DFSA on various occasions through her work at Skillpoint Alliance. Shatavia shared about her recent promotion within Skillpoint Alliance, a workforce development organization that provides a gateway for individuals to transform their lives through rigorous skills-based training and education. The new role brought her from Student Success Coordinator to Quality Assurance and Grants Manager within one year of her employment and has fueled her desire to help other women.

Shatavia has experience working with students and graduated from University of Texas at Arlington with her Bachelor’s degree in business. In December 2021, she also received a Master’s degree in higher education from Tarleton State University. As a first generation college student, she is motivated to help others and values being able to work with women pursing roles in the trades industry as it’s a male dominated field that offers opportunity for women to make a mark for themselves.

Skillpoint offers free, fast in-demand training programs to low-income individuals with career pathways for construction, maintenance and manufacturing. Residents of the Austin area can participate in these programs to become a skilled trades worker including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and a manufacturing technician. Shatavia mentions how all that Skillpoint Alliance offers closely aligns with her values of making a difference to students and hopes to continue her work in this new position.

“I want to pour back into women what others have poured into me. That makes going to school and working hard worth it.”
