Path to Employment brings new career and mindset to Cynthia
Earlier this year, Cynthia was recommended to participate in Dress for Success Austin’s Path to Employment program by her caseworker with the hopes of landing employment to support her family. She has since graduated as a mentee from the six-week program where she was matched with a mentor and says the experience brought her a new career and new mindset.
Cynthia credits her mentor Liz with helping gain the confidence to find a job she enjoys. She says she will always be grateful for her mentor’s support, especially through the hard times as she motivated her to always strive for the best.
“Liz was there throughout the process and helped me gain all the confidence I need to be successful,” she said. “Through all the tears and worry, she was always able to teach me to be strong and not give up on my goals.”
Cynthia went through four interviews before landing a job as front desk receptionist at a local hotel. She says Liz’s positivity and encouragement helped her throughout the interview and hiring process.
“I am now striving for a higher position and thanks to Dress for Success Austin I know I am worthy of this and more,” she said when asked about future career plans. She hopes to secure a position with better pay and is in the process of seeing what other opportunities are available. She’s currently waiting to hear back from a housing complex about a full-time front office position that offers more pay and financial stability.
“As a Hispanic woman, going after my dreams and actually being dedicated to achieving better opportunities feels amazing,” said Cynthia. “To finally be able to fight for my dreams and not give up until I get it is the best feeling. If you think you can't do it, believe you can.”
