Prioritize your mental health for Professional Wellness Month

It’s Professional Wellness Month and an opportunity for employers and organizations to enhance existing wellness programs and encourage their employees to take proactive steps for holistic well-being in the workplace. Creating a healthy environment translates from home to work and is mutually beneficial to both parties. Work life influences home life and vice versa with studies that show employees have positive sentiments when work is approached with balance in mind.

A Gallop Workplace study shares that when comparing employees who are engaged, but not thriving, with those who are engaged and thriving, those who aren't report the following:

  • 61% are more likely to experience burnout often or always

  • 48% are more likely to report daily stress

  • 66% are more likely to experience daily worry

  • 2x more likely to report daily sadness and anger

Why employers should invest in employee well-being:

  • 69% are less likely to actively search for a new job

  • 71% are less likely to report experiencing significant burnout

  • 36% are more likely to thrive in their overall lives

  • 3x more likely to be engaged at work

Employees: here are some ways you can avoid burnout and stress:

  • Change your meeting to a walking meeting

  • Create a focus hour to free your calendar and accomplish daily to-do’s

  • Set personal wellness goals for each week

  • Use a standing desk to improve circulation

  • Recharge in a quiet space and take a breather

  • Acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of coworkers, gratitude and appreciation goes a long way. It’s a mental boost!

  • Snack on healthy meals in the office to fuel your brain and body

  • Participate in a team-building activity

  • Attend a meditation or yoga session

BONUS TIP: Our Executive Director Mia Johns loves to take 10-15 minutes to jump on a mini trampoline. Have you heard the phrase: jump for joy? It’s such an easy way to release stress and give your heart a healthy boost while releasing endorphins. A few minutes and you’ll find your attitude is already improved!

Try integrating just a few of these into your day and see the difference it makes on your mental health. These are great techniques to keep in mind for this month, Social Wellness Month in July, World Mental Health Day on October 10, and throughout the year.
