Simona is motivated to make a difference as a nursing professional

Originally from California, Simona moved to Austin in 2019 after visiting the city years earlier on a vacation. Intuitively, she knew she would live in Austin one day, but the people, music and culture solidified her decision.

Once in Austin, Simona initially heard about Dress for Success Austin while in school to become a medical assistant a few years ago. Her instructor mentioned how DFSA provides professional attire, career coaching and other support to women. At the time, her finances were limited due to the demands of her accelerated nursing program so the timing of this resource was helpful.

Simona went on to become a licensed vocational nurse (LVN) through Galen College of Nursing. Most recently, she received her registered nurse (RN) license and completed clinical rotations at St. David’s. She has a passion for learning new skills and technology, but is always looking for ways to enhance practical skills as well — all were big motivators during her years of schooling.

At the moment, Simona is currently interviewing, having completed her nursing program and certification requirements. Simona shares, “I'm really excited to interview and explore different specialties in nursing to find out which one resonates with me the most.” She credits her interest in nursing with wanting to make an impact in patient’s lives. Whether it be through physical, emotional or holistic support, Simona is motivated to make a lasting difference no matter the role and hopes to be in a leadership role in five years.

Simona says, “Nursing school has been the most challenging, but rewarding experience I have ever done in my life.” Now that she’s completed school, she’s looking forward to reading a book for leisure and spending more time with family.
